Todd Layne Cleaners, Upper East Side, NYC helps you in one of those situations in which your (or someone else’s) zipper gets stuck at an inopportune moment? Almost everyone has had to deal with that awkward and frustrating experience at some point. It can be quite embarrassing in certain situations.

What to do? There are a few tricks that can get that zipper unstuck so you can go on with your business.

You can buy commercial zipper wax, but why spend the money when there are many household items that work just as well.

Pencil: Rub the lead pencil over the teeth of the zipper on both sides. This works because lead pencils are made of graphite, which works as a lubricant.

Candle wax: Rub a candle on the tracks of the zipper. A small candle, like a birthday candle works well.

Soap: If you do not have a pencil or candle on hand, you can also use a bar of unscented soap.  Open and close the zipper slowly two or three times to distribute the soap evenly.
