Do You Know Where Your Wash and Fold (Fluff n Fold) is Going?

Do you know where your Wash and Fold (Fluff and Fold) is going?

You’ve probably never thought about where your wash-and-fold is going when you send it out to be cleaned. The purpose of this blog is to educate my fellow New York City residents, especially those on the Upper East Side, about the process that most wash-and-fold services provide.

Here in New York City, the garment care industry has turned pretty much into the Wild Wild West.  There are middlemen creating dry cleaning websites with zero laundering experience and questionable credibility. Other companies operate out of vans with the name of a dry cleaning company on the side, with no actual store. There are other businesses that outsource all of their work to questionable places. When you give your garments out to somebody your expectation is that you’re giving it to someone trustworthy and that your garments will be cleaned effectively.

Do you enjoy taking bubble baths with strangers? Neither do your clothes. Most other places send out your precious wash-and-fold to a factory where your garments are placed in a mesh bag and washed in the same large industrial machine as other people’s clothes. Gross right? How about garments that come back smelling like glass cleaner? Not my cup of tea either. These places that utilize this type of process use industrial grade detergents and fabric softeners that aren’t even minimally effective at cleaning your clothes, at least not the way that you would expect. (hint: If you’re paying $.75cents or less per pound then you know this is what’s most likely happening to you)

So when you’re looking for a dry cleaner or wash-and-fold service, what do you look for? For starters, do they have an actual store you can visit? How about washing machines on the premises? A phone number that actually works? Is it easy to get in touch with them? How about a fair reimbursement policy in the event of loss or damage of garments? Do they utilize green cleaning techniques and give you a choice of cleaning method, premium soap, water/dryer temperature, and the option of hang dries?

Although I may be biased since I’ve been working for Todd Layne Cleaners since 2007, I think that you will find a difference in the way we do things around here from customer service to quality cleaning. If you would like to know more about our services, feel free to visit our website.

We take care of the little things so that you can focus on the big picture: Your clothes are cleaned the way YOU want them to be. They NEVER leave our premises. They’ll NEVER be washed with other people’s clothing. And your delicates will ALWAYS be hang dried upon request. We have an actual store and do not operate out of a van. Not only am I the Social Media Director here at Todd Layne Cleaners, I’ve worked in the garment care business for 7 years. So why not give us a call, send us an email, or better yet, stop by? I’d love to meet with you!
